Mörel “Cheschtine”-village
The village of Mörel, only 8 km from Brig with its 700 inhabitants, is situated at the foot of the largest glacier in the Alps, the Aletsch Glacier. The valley community has both a comprehensive infrastructure and a wide range of recreational, sports and leisure activities. Mörel is the entrance to the Aletsch Arena, as you can reach Riederalp in just 12 minutes by tram or gondola.
Thanks to the mild climate, the chestnut tree has a long tradition in the region. This tradition lives on in Mörel through the Cheschtine Guild (chestnut guild). Since 2005, the guild has maintained the Chestnut Selve with 120 chestnut trees, two rest areas and an exhibition on chestnut culture. A walk through the Selve reveals an impressive natural and cultural heritage to the public.
Another highlight is a visit to the Swiss Crystal Museum with exclusive exhibits from the Valais mountains.
A visit to the Salina Maris brine thermal baths with steam bath, sauna, and fitness center, offers relaxation.
